The California Participation Project – a project of Community Partners – is dedicated to expanding the role of nonprofits in voting and elections. The California Participation Project provides information, resources and tools for 501(c)(3) nonprofits so that they can integrate civic engagement into their on-going work.  The California Participation Project is a partner of Nonprofit VOTE.

Cheers to the 100%

2011 drew to a close with many reminders of the divisions between us, and the inequities that persist in our society.  So let’s begin 2012 by remembering the common action all citizens who are 18 and over can take this year – VOTE.

100% turnout is still a dream — less than 75% of eligible voters in California are registered and only 45% voted in 2010.  62.5% turned out for the last presidential election in 2008.  Let’s resolve to top that in 2012.

The California Participation Project  believes that nonprofits — their staff, board members and volunteers — have the power, the reach and the trusted relationships to dramatically increase voter participation and we resolve to make that happen.  As with all New Year’s resolutions, to succeed, we’ll need a good plan.

Get ready for the 2012 Elections with our January webinar

Thursday, January 26th , 11:00am-12:00pm PST

The first webinar in 2012 from our national partner – Nonprofit VOTE – will start you thinking about next year’s general election and how your nonprofit can maximize your impact with the resources you already have.  The 2012 presidential election will be here soon, and it’s time to start thinking about your nonprofit’s plan for registering, educating, and engaging voters. This webinar will cover when, where, and how to incorporate voter engagement activities into your work. Nonprofit VOTE will also help you develop and tailor a 2012 voter engagement timeline for your organization.

Presenter:  Jeff Narabrook, Public Policy Associate at the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits and Director of the Minneosta Participation Project.
